Australian War Memorial, ACT
Redevelopment Project
Client: Lend Lease
Scope: Foundation Piles
The AWM redevelopment project was undertaken to increase
exhibition space including creation of an additional underground level at
ANZAC Hall, construction of the Bean Building & reconfiguration of the
southern entry to the memorial.
High-risk workshops were carried out with all stakeholders to eliminate any potential clashes with Soil Nails, as the biggest safety concern was maintaining the integrity of the Shoring Wall. Ormond worked closely with all parties to ensure no soil nails were compromised during construction, and that the bearing pressures of the piling rig coupled with the close proximity to the wall didn’t overload the shoring system. Following successful planning stage, Ormond Civil Drilled & Installed 600mm Diameter Piles in Medium High Strength Dacite over a period of 4-6 weeks.
Scope of works included the Foundation Piles, which were at Ground level, adjacent to the basement. Due to client driven
construction sequencing, the shoring wall system had already been installed and the basement bulk earthworks completed.
